Recycling for Civic Engagement

About
Our club will first hold meetings during lunch in room 201 with Mr. Scharf on the first Friday of every month. These meetings will pose as our more educational meetings where we explain the purpose of our club; to provide GOHS with our services giving back by picking up waste from students and recycling to produce and encourage a clean school campus. During our Friday meetings we will discuss various topics such as, how not recycling effects our environment, the amount of population our society encounters today, how to recycle effectively, and how our environment with our efforts will be healthier. For the service portion of our club, we will meet every other Tuesday of the month(twice a month) during intervention from passes assigned on 5-Star from Mr. Scharf to meet up outside room 201. Once we have all gathered we will split into partner groups where individual partner groups will be assigned to an area of campus to be responsible for both picking up garbage to be put in trash cans around campus, and more importantly pick up littered and improperly disposed recyclable materials. Once intervention is near the end, we will collectively meet together to weigh how much cans and bottles in lbs. we were able to remove from campus that was disposed of improperly or littered contributing to a healthier and cleaner campus environment. Finally with the cans and bottles we collect, we can either work along side janitors to contribute to cleaning up our campus, or by establishing a student account through the bookkeeper for funds strictly restricted to GOHS, we will use what profits we earn from recycling to donate towards school programs, sports, and cleaning supplies for our club as well as the possibility for more campus cleanup events in the future outside of our club. Also within this club as Mr. Scharf is the advisor for A.C.E. this club will be an opportunity for students to fulfill their community service hour quotas as they provide their services back to the school and be signed off by Mr. Scharf.
